Hey kids!
Here's the poem I read for the Roar. More later.
THE ONLY WAY OUT IS DOWN, MY LONELY HAVEN
My guts have been to places
that you will never know
And let’s make it clear
the same is true for you
listening to hearts for broken music
still looking
for the words that go unsaid
if only
to project the visions
away from the self
and on to more worthy beauty
give it to something
quietly
without fixing a name
a secret to share in gestures
an anonymous tip
treasure that must not be explained
but these things take time
for a toe-first kinda girl
And it is the duty of each
generation to bring forth
the beauty of her mind’s eye
so that the young ones
can use it for their evolution
and revolutions
and do not doubt that theirs
will be bigger, better, and braver
than yours
Pandora uncorked
to a glorious spray of holographic colour
and I have decided to love them all
the angry and ugly
the painfully disdainful
and the deadly
I will love them
like the hot kiss of tattoo’s ink
tearing at the skin
like a humming bird
with a wasp’s beak
I will love them
like cold steel through
pierced flesh
I will be the pre-natal wound
waiting for it’s weapon.
But only in a lonely haven
do my Cottingly Fairies come to life
I am a man of sin
and a man of perdition
and I
like you
must remember to always admit this.
But surely I was never doing too much
and always
there was room for more
so there is my pure
definition for passion
so I don’t want a cure for pain
I’m dancing down the hole
and I’m not coming back again
so hold this to a candle
and watch the flame consume
my short fuse
