So I went to my first ever poetry reading last night. Yeeha!!!!!!! It was a poetry slam, i.e. you can win prizes, which I didn't. I was vibrating like a chijuajua in a snow drift when I went up to read of course, despite the copious amounts of medicinal alcohol I downed before hand. It went well, but the prize went to the infamous Minister Faust, a local DJ at CJSR and English professor, whom it seems no one will ever be able to beat. Damn he's good. He did one piece on the brewing troubles of the Middle East and one on reggae music, but to sum them up like that really doesn't do them justice. I did a play with him many moons ago, so I re-introduced myself and he remembered me too, so that was cool. I tell ya, there is some serious poetic talent in this town. Mandie, a friend of mine from school who invited me to the event (thanks Mandie!) did an amazing job as well. It was a trippy scene. I ran into loads of people from my first degree. Some of them even remembered me! Imagine that! Seems like it was eons ago: I was shocked that I remembered them, let alone the other way around... Anyway, it was great: a bunch of crazy beatniks huddled around candle-lit coffee tables and couches. Totally a time warp. They clapped though. Finger poppin, I assume, is no longer in fashion:D
