Here's a blues song I wrote ages ago. I sang it at the end of my creative writing class last year.
POSSESSION & OBSESSION
Possession and obsession
It's all the same to me
The way we hunger for the chains
That bind us to be free
Posession and obsession
In love we must abide
The only time we drop our shields
And swallow all our pride
Swallow all our pride
I can tell myself to fear you
I can try to push you out
But I can't stop my heart from beating
When I know what it's about
You see through me like a prophet
Through the windows to my soul
But you can't see what I keep hidden
Veiled behind the grassy knoll.
All the sinners in their sainthood
They guilt me into love
Around here you don't need reason
This is logic from above
We keep fighting losing battles
Always swim against the stream
But in a fragment of a moment
We are safe and warm and clean
Possession and obsession
It's all the same to me
The way we hunger for the chains
That bind us to be free
Possession and obsession
In love we must abide
The only time we drop our shields
And swallow all our pride
Swallow all our pride
We're all prisoners to our sorrow
We all chase the golden sun
Every scar a lonely symbol
Of when we didn't turn and run
We all know just what the score is
Lying through our tired eyes
Bouyed underneath the iceburg
We can't see the bluer skies
Possession and obsession
It's all the same to me
The way we hunger for the chains
That bind us to be free
Possession and obsession
In love we must abide
The only time we drop our shields
And swallow all our pride
Swallow all our pride
