Just picked up the new HangedUp CD, "Kicker in Tow". Hwaaa. The sound reminds me of the way you feel when you hit an ice patch on the highway and end up doing an extended 540^ into the ditch, which actually happened to me a few weeks ago on my way home to Lloyd. It's made up of fantastic (in the gothic sense) pieces, all calculated chaos of drum beats coupled with urgent viola skitters and sad, wailing upright bass lines. Amazing. All you can do is lie on the floor and stare at the ceiling like someone just told you you're lover's dead.
So, I've been on a role with the free CD's this week. While everyone else was paying their last respects to The Rev on Saturday night, I went to the Fox & Hounds with a friend of mine to check out Project Infinity III, the punk-rock brain child of a fellow GrantMac student. It was the second of two nights that included a great line up of local bands, including my said class-mate's band, Some Won Spit. We got a free CD with our 10$ admission, which includes tracks by The Falling Race, Some Won Spit (of course), Nothing At All (their lead singer rocks), The Brewkowskis, and Change Methodical, to name a few. Perfect for Monday mornings when CJSR's death metal is just a tad too far into the blackness to really get you going! Anyway, the show was great. After a few rough starts (blamed on copious drinkage) Some Won Spit had all the heads banging. The lead singer was brilliantly dressed in suit and tie, hat, sunglasses and all, making her seem wonderfully ambiguous. Cory can seriously wail on those drums, evidenced by a rather nasty wound to her knuckle that she obliged to show us after the show. I love that bar. The walls are as dark and grungy as the uniforms, and the bathrooms are left at just the right level of dank. My friend and I had a good time chatting up some young punks who were far too young to be drinking with the likes of us. But the beer tasted good and cold, and the pool tables were free, so we all had a good laugh and exchanged e-mails, etc. Even in the Fox & Hounds, it seems, networking is an apropriate protocal. Three cheers for Fox & Hounds! Three cheers for Project Infinity III! Three cheers for Some One Spit! And three cheers for Cory for making it all happen! Good show.
